Holy Crap my dad and I are trying to do our Oz marathon and we found a lost series called “Off to See the Wizard” and nobody can find it. There are TONS of celebrities in it. I mean they have so many famous voice actors
Some of the greatest voice actors of my dads time!
Mel Blanc
Daws Butler
Don Messick
June Forray
And Looney Tunes AND Hana Barbara worked on it!!
Basically this show would’ve been the holy grail of voice work and the animation looks REALLY GOOD.
HOW IS THIS SO LOST? MY DAD AND I CANT FIND THE TWO EPISODES ANYWHERE!
They used a TON of songs from the 1939 movie for the OP. It’s not half bad but it’s all we can find? It’s so weird!
Also lion looks like he’s on drugs which is always a good thing.

So. Wicked Part 1 (as the opening titles of the film very clearly states). I can’t fully judge this thing. Not yet. Like as an adaptation of act one of the Broadway musical it largely succeeds. I think for most people Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth remain THE definitive Elphaba and Glinda and rightly so. Yet Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo do such a marvelous job embodying the characters - in terms of both general performance & singing - they truly manage to make the parts their own.
The rest of the cast is equally up to the challenge & it’s all bolstered by truly sumptuous production values, terrific choreography, & excellent cinematography throughout. I think this might genuinely be the best looking version of Oz put to film to-date. It’s bright, colorful, & completely unreal in a way that paradoxically only serves to give it greater reality.
So what’s the problem? Well for one thing this 2 hour & 40 minute movie could’ve easily had 20 minutes shaved off & been all the better for it. There is a lot of spoken exposition which gets restated in one musical number or another leading to frequent redundancy. Which is not to say none of the additions work - the animal subplot from the stage version gets a lot more play on screen and feels all too appropriate all things considered.
Ultimately the biggest problem is how the movie tackles Defying Gravity. There’s a whole lot more Sturm und Drang in the lead up to the song which continues throughout to the point that there are 2 major interruptions that are not in the original stage version. It’s clearly the movie side overtaking the theatrical side & the whole sequence is weaker for it. It’s not enough to ruin the ending or anything, but it is concerning considering what is yet to come in the next Wicked film. The original Broadway production kept most of the action off stage to focus on the characters instead. I’m worried the film makers won’t be able to resist which could intern wreck the whole thing. We’ll see.

Regulus waiting for James with his hand formed into a fist, obviously waiting for a fist bump.
James: Er?
Regulus, nodding and offering his fist:
James being confused af but still fist bumping Regulus anyway because what else can he do? Refuse? Over his dead body.
Regulus:
Regulus: Love you, bro.
James: What….
James, slowly raising his head: Did you….
James: JUST… call ME?!
Regulus already halfway down the hallway, manically laughing as he runs up the stairs with James immediately 3 steps behind him.
James: I AM NOT YOUR BRO?! I’M ‘BABY’ OR ‘SUNSHINE’ OR ‘MON SOLEIL’ OR ‘LOVE’! I AM MOST DEFINITELY NOT—

listen but rival teachers jeggy where they are both competing for like a very lame prize at the end of the year that the school gives out and they just really dislike each other and how they are as teachers but they keep getting forced into situations where they have to get along like chaperoning a dance or going as the two teachers for a field trip and they kinda start understanding each other better but also they both really want that lame prize so they don't want to care for the other and ugh just absolute two idiots slowly falling in love

Oh if only you could hold it in your hand and really see how automaton-y it is! The body is like a yoyo shape with a yellow gap/indent separating the two distinct front and back plates that are connected with a few thin flaps, and the limbs are connected in the sockets. Hard to explain. Also the feet and legs have protruding bits like stacked stones. The effect is very subtle and cool in person.

The Second Flautist remains the stupidest but also funniest adaptation choice. Su Minshan, heretofore portrayed as a cringefail loser who needed Wangxian and Wen Ning to save his ass from the Waterborne Abyss, overrides Wei Wuxian’s demonic cultivation abilities TWICE. Not only does he seize control of Wen Ning, but he manipulates the resentment summoned by Wei Wuxian to attack people and turn them into puppets at Nightless City SO EFFECTIVELY that Wei Wuxian cannot regain control of them even on an individual basis with the Yin Tiger Tally helping him.
Su Minshan, true Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation, is the most overpowered character in the entire series, and we must therefore conclude that he chooses to be Jin Guangyao’s devoted henchman rather than seizing any power for himself because he finds it personally fulfilling.

I'm pretty much the worst person to even weigh in on this topic because I've been partial to Suvi since day one, but in my opinion there wasn't ever a need to explain or justify Suvi's choices/reactions.
Not because she's perfect, never wrong (though in my heart I know...) but because I'm very certain that the people that keep on hammering on her mistakes/shortcomings/tendencies are people that already dislike Suvi (or don't like Aabria very much, I wish this wasn't a topic of consideration but even 30+ eps in there's still people like that around) for whatever reason and gather excuses to justify their bias against her and no amount of explanation will turn their hearts in her favour.
It really feels like a parallel to the way Suvi herself tries to be understood by her friends and yet she fails time and time again.
And people insist on forgetting that Suvi is not the Citadel, she's just one young wizard of the Citadel.
And it's gut-wrenching how much I relate to that feeling of alienation before every corner she tries to fit in: amongst her citadel peers she's othered by her position and privilege, and now by her friendship to a witch and a spirit; between her friends she's the odd-one-out because of her Citadel connections and the nature of her power; and now amongst the witches she stands out by being the face of the "enemy".
I don't blame her for clinging to the little corner of the world that has not made her feel foreign despite the very nature of her presence: in Steel's family whom she's not related to by blood, yet completely by heart.
And it'll never be a fair game. The girls especially are very young and with new-found independence, they're given colossal decisions to make, and that before beings older than three generations of them combined and incomprehensively more powerful and less empathic.
As much as Mirara wants there to be a good witch and bad witch, there's no such thing as black and white, there are decisions and consequences, what one does with the power they're given. There is no right or wrong in a fight filled with so much heart, there was never a world where a fight between Ame and Suvi would be clean.
